So the main difference between self-inking and pre-inked stamps is the way they are inked. Self-inking stamps have an ink pad built into the stamp body that automatically inks the stamp die after each impression.

Pre-inked stamps have ink impregnated into the stamp die itself, which is re-inked by adding ink to the die when it runs dry. Self-inking stamps are more common and easier to use than pre-inked stamps. They are also less expensive and can be re-inked with ink refills.

Both stamps have lots of different uses and we always recommend when choosing a stamp to think about the application of the product as to what is the best viable product for you to choose.

How do I re-ink a self-inking stamp?

To re-ink a self-inking stamp, you need to remove the ink pad from the stamp body and add ink to the pad. The ink pad can be removed by pressing down on the locking mechanism on the side of the stamp body and sliding the pad out. Then, add ink to the pad until it is fully saturated. Be careful not to over-ink the pad as this can cause smudging. Once you have added ink to the pad, slide it back into the stamp body and lock it in place.
